Myjia takes all in dramatic win

Pasir Ris - In the most dramatic of fashion, ace striker Chia Jun Hao scored a stunning 25-yard freekick to seal a truly memorable 6-5 win for Myjia on Saturday afternoon.

Leading 4-1 at one stage in the first half, Myjia uncharacteristically let GE Aviation FC into the game with some sloppy defending before defending a slender 4-3 lead into the second half.

It was Jun Hao who once again showed his eye for goal to feed on a through ball from on-loan defender Roy and he made no mistake slotting the ball past the Aviation keeper. Myjia deservedly going into a one-goal lead but against the run of play, the Aviation strikers scored a goal from a counter attack to level the score.

A very spirited Myjia display saw the players up the ante despite the equaliser. Midfielder Kenneth Koh who had an outstanding game started the rout when he broke through the opposition defence and attempted to chip the keeper. The chip was blocked by the keeper but Kenneth latched on the rebound with a sliding shot. 2-1 to Myjia and there was more to come.

Kenneth once again drove through the midfield and skipped past the Aviation defenders and unleashed a rocket of a shot which crashed against the crossbar. Jun Hao was on hand to follow up and headed the rebound in. Myjia was on a roll by now and before long lanky forward Ronnie Low added to the goals with his first goal of the season. The goal courtesy of a cheeky backheel flick, extended Myjia's lead to an impressive 4-1.

Somewhat strangely, Myjia complacently dropped a gear or two to allow GE Aviation FC into the game at 4-3 just before halftime.

The second haf started nervously as Myjia were unable to get into their gears. Aviation No. 68 took advantage of the rustiness and promptly levelled the score at 4-4. The drama at Pasir Ris Crest began to unfold with both sides seemingly equal in every aspect of the game. It took another 25 minutes before Myjia got a breakthrough. The effort from both sides were highly commendable but at this instance, it was Myjia who had the advantage. Good pressure from the attackers forced the Aviation rightback into a schoolboy error as he cleared the ball across his goal only Kenneth to score with a supreme diving header. Pasir Ris is fast becoming a favourite haunting ground for Kenneth with his second spectacular goal after his volley last season at the very same ground. The goal was also Kenneth's third goal in two games at the ground.

The team were jubilant and celebrated wildly with the goalscorer, the fans were ecstatic. Myjia had worked hard for the goal and had gotten their rewards. The team pushed back in numbers to protect the lead and for a good fifteen minutes, it appeared the final score would be 5-4. The Aviation strikers though had other ideas. A break down the right side allowed an Aviation striker a clear sight on goal. Evading challenges from Jerry and then Jun Hao, the striker whacked in a low shot which spilled out of Raymond's hands and into the net. 5-5 and with less than 3 mintues on the clock, everyone present would have settled for a highly entertaining 5-5 draw.

The script was however far from complete. A late challenge on Wai Meng by a tiring Aviation midfielder presented Myjia with a free kick from 25-yards out and with the last kick of the game, Jun Hao grabbed his hat-trick and sealed a 6-5 victory for Myjia in a rousing finale.
