Wilkin Tan Admits To Being An Addict
Kampung Bahru - Myjia defender Wilkin Tan has admitted to this website to being a Myjia addict. A reliable source revealed, "He has been harping non-stop about Myjia, everything about him hints at Myjia involvement. Just check out his MSN nick..Myjia RAWR!"
An interview with the player himself confirmed the suspicion his team mates had all along.
Myjia Web (MW): How often do you visit this website? Wilkin Tan (Kin): Whenever I log on to the Net, and that is everyday, 24/7.
MW: What do you hope to see whenever you are online? Kin: See Myjia players, fans on MSN. Check out news on Myjia Website. See the statistics of our players. Basically, I eat, breathe, sleep and live Myjia...Myjia!
MW: What else would you want to do for Myjia besides being a player? Kin: I have already set up a friendster Group for all Myjias to link to. It is like a community for us the players to stay connected to the fans. This is the link: Myjia Friendster Group . Also, I would like to suggest to the management committee regarding the printing of Myjia polo-tees. Wouldn't it be nice if we all wore the polo-tees for matches and other functions?
MW: Anything else to add? Kin: I am just keen and happy to be a part of Myjia. If possible, let there be even more interaction among the players and the fans like more mahjong sessions, or even car rides. =) Maybe we can all organise chalets, movies or K-Box sessions. Game consoles like PS (Winning Eleven) or Xbox are also another alternative to hang out together...I love Myjia! I love Myjias! RAWR! Myjia Rocks!
Yio Chu Kang - What a game! Another unbelievable weekend of football by Myjia as we start the season rolling after the disappointing game a fortnight ago.
6-2 against a young Young Chinks side is a great result given the opponents superior speed. Myjia's performance was very creditable and definately encouraging for Season Two. Despite going down to an early goal courtesy of a failed offside trap, the team showed a never-say-die attitude to take the game to the Chinks and even led 3-2 at halftime.
There was no need for a pep talk at halftime, such was the belief from team manager Vincent Low. The team spirit and willingness to work for one another was there for all to see and further goals in the second half silenced off the Chinks resistance.
So, one season and two games played, what better time to recap the players' performance than after a resounding victory?
Goalkeeper: Raymond Commanding throughout the match, there was nothing he could do about the two goals conceded, one of which was a penalty. Rating: 8
Sweeper: Vincent (Capt) Showed his experience in defence as well as his reading of the game. Organised the offside trap successfully more often than not. Rating: 7.5
Stopper: Jackson Did well in an unfamiliar position and was a real threat whenever he forayed into the opponents' half. Showed flashes of his dribbling skills during the match. Rating: 7.5
Leftback: Delvin Goals: 1 His versatility and speed are his greatest asset as he stormed down the left flank and cracked in a swirling shot which any striker would have been proud of. Did not neglect his defensive duties either. Rating: 9
Rightback: Wilkin Grew in stature during the game though had an average game by his standards. Rating: 7
Centre Midfield: Kenneth Goals: 1 Got himself a well-deserved goal and has been the heart and engine of the Myjia midfield for the past season and again during the match. Rating: 9
Centre Midfield: Wai Meng Goals: 1 A declining presence in midfield but redeemed himself a little with a freekick to break his goal drought for Myjia. His last goal was on 19 August 2006. Rating: 7
Left Wing: Wilson Had a relatively quiet game but ventured with purpose down the flanks. Earned the freekick which Wai Meng put away. Rating: 7
Right Wing: Ebenzer Troubled the left defender in the second half after a dismal first 45 minutes. Almost scored his first goal of the season only to be blocked by a last ditch stop by the goalkeeper. Rating: 7
Striker: Ronnie Supreme work ehtics. Raced back to cover the rightback on several ocassions and was unfortunate not to put his name on the scoresheet. Rating: 8
Striker: Junhao Goals: 3 Another fantastic display by the chief striker. Continuing his goalscoring form from last season. Capped his hat-trick with a simple sidefoot finish after a glorious Myjia move which Delvin squared for him to finish. Rating: 9
Striker: Eric Missed a penalty but otherwise a solid performance. A natural tendancy to drift to the flanks has deprived him of more chances on goal. Rating: 7.5
Season opener ends in 4-4 brawl
3/9/07, Report by L. Weimin
Bedok - Season 2007/2008 opened in the worst possible manner for Myjia FFC. The opening fixture against Malay Punkins ended abruptly at 4 apiece after the opponents , guilty of gross unsporting behaviour, threatened to turn the match into a farce.
The trouble began to brew when a Punkins reserve player began taunting Myjia keeper Raymond from behind the goal. The referee was alerted to the situation but the errant player continued his delinquent ways and even hurled abuses at the referee. The match official had little choice but to send the nuisance off.
At this point in time, Punkins had already taken a 1-0 lead courtesy of some super-slack defending by Myjia. A passionate Raymond had to be cooled down by player-manager Vincent Low after the former angrily berated the defence.
Punkins soon increased their lead despite the off-the-field events. A low shot by the Punkins attack hit the post and an apparently-still-upset Raymond was reluctant to block the follow-up shot for a 2-0 Punkins lead.
Following the two goal cushion , complacency crept into the Punkins game which eventually gifted a corner to Myjia in the 26th minute. The outswinger was partially cleared and the ball reached Jackson Seetoh who volleyed the ball into the bottom corner for Myjia's first goal of the season. 2-1 read the scoreboard and what a boost it was for Myjia! The team started showing more urgency and the equaliser duly arrived in the 40th minute. Midfielder Leong Wai Meng won a header that released Delvin down the left flank. Evading two challenges, the speed demon unleashed a shot which was blocked by the keeper but fell invitingly back for Delvin to volley in the equaliser.
The goal silenced the noisy Punkins team bench and was a personal victory for Delvin who has been involved in an ongoing spat with the Punkins right winger. Just before halftime, Delvin raced back to cover the defence and his too-obvious bodycheck on the right winger was spotted by the referee, earning him a yellow card for the offence.
Player-manager Vincent Low cautioned his charges during the halftime peptalk but the real action was on the pitch as the red-carded Punkins reserve player confronted the referee in a threatening manner. In a split second, a mouthful splatter of spit was aimed at the match official who probably did not have the time to evade the showers of blessings. That act of petulance almost prompted the referee to abandon the game at that instance till the situation was eventually diffused.
The misbehaving Punkins entered the field for the second half behaving like thugs and tempers were boiling within for both teams. Myjia, being the more disciplined team, kept its cool and took a quick two goal lead both through on-loan player Jerry. Somehow a lapse in concentration allowed Punkins to pull two goals back before the real drama began.
With the score even at 4-4, Wilson Tan attempted a throw-in which was blocked by a Punkins player. The referee revealed his cowardly side by calling for a foul-throw instead of a foul on Wilson.
The Punkins player promptly picked up the loose ball and for no apparent reason, aimed the ball at Wilson. All hell broke loose at this point and scuffles broke out between both sets of players and the referee had to eventually abandon the match after losing the plot and control of the game.
4-4 was the final score but the only consolation must have been the unity shown by Myjia after Wilson had been targeted.
