Bowen - Hours before kickoff Myjia suffered another blow with news of hardworking fullback Wilkin Tan and tenacious midfielder Kenneth Koh being unavailable for the fixture against Dunearn Old Boys due to personal commitment.
Despite missing several key players from the squad due to personal commitment, Myjia fans had something to cheer about with the release of a muchly anticipated new kit.
Besides, Myjia were given a further boost in morale with the availability of veteran midfielder Eugene Low to the squad. Besides, Myjia were able to secure a short-term loan deal for silky midfielder Wan from Harding FC.
The sound of the referee's whistle filled the pitch as Myjia began the match confidently. Myjia began to pass the ball around confidently and controlled the tempo of the game. Myjia had much of the possession from the start of the game but were not doing much with it.
However the first chance came when a ball was played through to Junhao who fired a shot in only to be denied by the keeper. The chance was the opening Myjia was looking for as they began to pile pressure on the Old Boys defence.
Despite constantly having pressure in defence, the Old Boys had their fair share of attacking threats only to be let down by wayward finishing and the brilliance of Myjia defence marshalled by veteran Vincent Low to nullify their attack with offside traps.
On the 20th minute, Myjia thought they had taken the initiative when Jerry fired a shot which scrap pass the side of the post. Minutes later, Jerry had another chance to put Myjia in the lead only to fire the ball wide across goal.
On the half-hour mark, Myjia finally broke the dead lock when winger Wilson battled hard to win back the ball from the sideline before releasing the ball to Jerry who showed excellent vision and passing ability to pick out chief striker Junhao. Upon recieving the ball, Junhao showed composure to sidestep the keeper and made no mistake by slotting the ball in to an empty net.
Myjia had chance to extend their lead with a sweetly struck freekick by loanee Wan only to be denied by the fingertip of the keeper.
Myjia carried their 1-0 led into the break with a beautifully taken goal by Junhao and the solid performance by the defence especially Ng Yongchun.
Myjia began the second half with confirdence from the first half which Myjia showed composure by passing the ball around. However the Old Boys showed desperation to fight back from the deficit by switching to a more offensive formation of 3-5-2.
Their switch to a more attacking front definitely proved to have an impact to the game with the Old Boys having more options going forward. However their attack were constantly broken down by man-of-the-match Yongchun. His crucial intervention throughout the match was a key to why Myjia were still in the lead.
However by going all out in attack, it definitely left the Old Boys defence vulnerable to counter-attacks. Chief striker Junhao proved the point with an exquisite chip over the the keeper after being played through by Jerry,who was on the top of his game, during a counter attack.
Despite having a two goal cushion, the Old Boys began to cause Myjia's defence problem and they were close to getting a goal back only to be denied by the double save from Aaron who was filing the boots of shotstopper Raymond Tan. Superb save it definitely was by Aaron, however minutes later the Old Boys got their reward with a easy tap-in having break the offside trap.
The play then began to be bob down in the middle of the park. However on third quarter of the game, Myjia manage to put the game to rest from a brilliant set piece by Wan which release speed demon Delvin through on goal. Focus and Composure was definitely required by Delvin and he definitely showed it as he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. 3-1 was the scoreline and the match was definitely not within the reach of the Old Boys unless they were a miracle.
Minutes later newly-wed Jackson had an opportunity to get on the scoresheet after being released on the left flank by Junhao. However his shot was straight into the hands of the keeper.
Instead of letting Myjia dominate and increase their lead further, the Old Boys pushed forward hoping for a miracle to happen. However they were denied by the interventions of Myjia defenders.
Constant bombardment by the strikers of Old Boys left Myjia defence with a few nervy moments. However the pressure came to an end when the referee blow his whistle for full-time.
3-1 was the final score and it was definitely a superb way to launch a new kit. Myjia fans will definitely be expecting brighter things to come having see a superb passing display and Junhao firing all cylinders which sees their team to victory. Besides Myjia have finally overcome their injury jinx with midfielders Delvin and Mingchun back in action.
Myjia camp will definitely be hoping that all these factors will be the key to the beginning of their winning run.
